Our household goods shipment is finally getting delivered! So excited to get our stuff and make this place more homey! Before I get to that here's a few randoms...
We finally ventured out to the local McDonald's...I had one of the Japanese favorites, Teriyaki McBurger. It was a pork patty, similar to a sausage patty and had teriyaki sauce, lettuce and mayo. It was ok, but I probably won't order it again. Fries and drink portion sizes included in the meal are also smaller than in USA.
This is some pasta that I had at Pasta House in Misawa, it had scallops, broccoli and mushrooms. Very yummy!
This picture is for my Dad, can't remember if I told you I saw this in a store or not. But anyway, they sell disc's specifically for this!
Ok, now back to our house. The base is eventually going to install air conditioners in housing, but that could be years from now. This year they were able to upgrade the power grid enough to support portable air conditioners. Yay! Each home is allowed one unit and they have to meet specific requirements. We ordered ours from an electronics place in town, Yamada, and it came in this week. Luckily I got it all set up the day before everything got delivered. Here's what it looks like, it's big and the hoses were too short to reach the window vent so I had to improvise using the cinder blocks. It brings air in from the outside, cools and dehumidifies it and then sends the hot air back outside. The bucket is to catch the moisture. We decided to keep it in our room so we can at least sleep. We have fans set up everywhere else. Worth the $300-something it cost? We'll see, if it allows us to get decent sleep then probably worth every penny.
This is the tree in our backyard. Noticed a couple of days ago that it was starting to flower.
And the movers have arrived! It was a little before 11am on August 8th. Took it 10 weeks from when it got packed up in Warrensburg to get delivered here. That 10 weeks seemed like forever!
The only major casualty of the move... but it almost brought me to tears...our headboard. No replacing it while we're here :( |
And this is all supposed to fit into OUR unit? |
Kitchen boxes. |
He's just excited to have his LazyBoy and a couch he can stretch out on! |
Spare room. |
Our room minus the bed frame :( |
We could have made the mover's keep unpacking stuff, but with the limited space I decided I'd rather just do it myself so I knew where things were going and could pick and choose what to do first. They were done unloading stuff and putting the few pieces of furniture back together by 1:30 and that included them taking an hour lunch break. We spent the rest of the day getting the living room and bedroom into livable condition. I worked on the kitchen for the next couple of days. It was slow going since I wanted to wash everything before putting it away.
Went to Phada's PadThai & Spicy for dinner one night since the kitchen was "un-usable".
Spring rolls. |
Pad Kee Mao, what I had last time. |
Stir fried sweet & sour sauce - stir fried chicken meat, cucumber, tomatoes, pineapple and carrot |
Here's how everything looked by the morning of August 10th, 1 1/2 days after delivery...a little better, but still plenty of work to be done!
Up next: A few sights of Hachinohe
