Random foods of January...guess I took a break from cooking this month!

Looking back at January it seems like we ate out quite a bit. It might have been because we didn't do much of anything else because of the snow or maybe because I was working so much on crocheting that I didn't feel like cooking. Whatever the reason, here are a few new places that we tried and a little info about each.

Not a restaurant, but a little light display in Misawa.

The following are some pictures from a yakiniku and noodle restaurant in Towada. I'm not sure on the name of it. We went there with some friends, two of which were Japanese women. They ordered their favorite, "chicken bones." I asked to try one and they were very shocked and impressed that I did. The "bones" were cartilage. Very interesting texture obviously, and had to chew forever, but the taste was good.

Location: South of Route 10 on Route 4. It's just north of a Circle K. (40.612924, 141.258733)

Beef with garlic, pork and "chicken bones."
Korean cold noodles. Flavored with vinegar
and kimchi to desired spiciness.
Korean seafood "pizza."
Have no idea what was on it.

This is a little restaurant in Misawa called Tonki. They serve tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) and have a few variations to choose from. Food was good, maybe a little pricey for what you get (in our opinion). I got the "Roast & Cheese Cutlet" set and it was 1,300¥.

Location: It's just a couple of doors down from Cheese Roll House. (40.681928, 141.364434)

Inside of restaurant, looking back toward the door.
This is my meal. Cutlet with cabbage salad, miso soup, rice,
pickles and some sort of macaroni/ham(or fish) salad...haha,
not sure on that last one!
Front of the restaurant. The street is pretty dark.

This is another small place in Misawa that just recently opened. Off the Wall is a small bar and restaurant that serves a variety of food. Lots of American style dishes like burgers and wings. I had the orange chicken, Keenan had a burger and wings. It was ok, the sauce on my chicken was good but it tasted really oily. I know a lot of people think it's great so maybe mine was just a fluke.

Location: Just out the main gate and across the street from the American Plaza/Nakai Liquor. (40.684834, 141.365712)

View from the street.
It's up the stairs on the 2nd floor.

Pia Sapido is an Italian restaurant in the Shimoda Aeon Mall. The draw for this place is the all-you-care-to-eat bread that comes with all meals. Delicious. Even if the pasta had been terrible (and it wasn't), still worth it for the bread.

Location: The restaurant alley on the ground floor of the mall. (40.602062, 141.419029)

Only a few examples of the many choices.
I won't say how many more I actually ate...
Clam chowder.
Spaghetti with mushroom cream sauce.
Seafood linguine with tomato sauce.
Seafood included: shrimp,
clams, baby cuttlefish and mussels.
Right outside the restaurant,
plastic models of the menu options.

Up next: We get Happy at Appi!
